War, Revolution, and Leadership in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula

Home >> ACADEMICS >> Courses >> War, Revolution, and Leadership in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula
  • Elective course
  • 4 credits
This course will focus on the sources of tradition and political authority in the Gulf.  It will also outline the roots of the historical conflicts that originated in the two centuries prior to British withdrawal in 1968.  In addition to readings on the socio-political history of the post-1968 Gulf, students will be asked to read and discuss relevant anthropological and sociological texts that examine the practice of patrimonial authority along the Arab littoral of the Persian Gulf.  In short, this will be a graduate-level introduction to the geography, social organization, and the role of history in the post-1967 politics of the Persian Gulf.
