Gender Studies Workshop

Each year the MAMES program assembles a workshop on a topic not covered in our regular classes. The MAMES Workshop is a discussion group whose direction and focus of study will be determined largely by the students. At the end of the summer, participants will be invited to submit papers (1000-1500 workds) for publication in Rihla, the MAMES journal. 

This year, the topic of the workshop is The History of Sexuality and Gender in the Middle East. 

July 11: 
Christina Durano will lead a discussion on "Crimes of Honor" in India and Pakistan. 
Reading: "Legacies of Common Law: 'Crimes of Honor in India' and Pakistan"
Meeting at 1pm in Gilman room 447.

June 4: 
Elyse Whitehead will lead a discussion on women and healthcare in the Indian subcontinent.

May 7: 
Introduction to the body of literature on the History of Sexuality and Gender in the Middle East. Please read:
