Home >> Study Trips >> Bedouins of Israel

On this two-day tour to southern Israel, we journey from Tel Aviv to learn about the Bedouins of the Negev.

On the first day, we learn about traditional weaving at the Bedouin village of Lakiya. We learn about Bedouin women's rights and this grassroots organization aimed at empowering women and fostering economic development. Then we take a jeep tour through the Negev desert. In the evening we enjoy a film screening and discussion about Bedouin culture.

On the second day of the trip, we take a tour with the Negev Coexistence Forum, Dukium. We visit Abu Tulul, where we learn about the historical and political processes that have shaped the space where most of the Bedouin population of Israel lives today, and discuss the difference between recognized and unrecognized villages. Then we visit the unrecognized village of El-Sira, and the recognized township of Aror, meeting with residents from each of these settlements. There, we learn about social services, urbanization, and Bedouin society. Finally, we eat a traditional Bedouin meal in El-Sira.
